While many people can't wait to say goodbye to 2020, as employers plan for 2021, it's important to be mindful of new laws that may impact your employee(s). One area that must be addressed is minumum wage. Minimum wage has been an important issue for legislators and voters alike in recent years, and 2021 brings with it wage increases for employees in at least 25 states with many of the increases taking effect January 1st, although many states, including Oregon, Nevada, and Connecticut will see changes later in the year.
The federal minimum wage remains $7.25 in 2021, a rate that has not changed since 2009, although the vast majority of states have a minimum higher than the federal rate.
